Udupi : The Udupi district administration is fully geared up for the civic body polls scheduled for March 7. In Udupi CMC limits there are a total of 85 booths for 35 wards.

In Kundapur and Karkala there are 23 booths and 14 booths in Saligrama.

Nearly 600 additional police personnel have been deployed for the smooth conduct of the polls, while more security personnel have been provided for booths identified as sensitive. Check posts have also been set up at 10 places.

Chief Election Officer Appaiah, Deputy Commissioner MT Reju, Tahsildar Abhijith and others visited St Cecily School where Electronic Voting Machines to be taken to different wards are placed.The voting will begin at 7 am and will be held till 5 pm.

 Udupi CMC has 38,406 women and 37,112 men voters. The counting will be held on March 11.

The Congress and BJP being main contenders are confident of winning majority seats. The Congress hopes to bag 30 out of 35 seats while the BJP too is equally confident.
