Mumbai: A First Information Report (FIR) prepared by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has former CM Ashok Chavan among 13 accused in Adarsh Housing case. Today, CBI named former Major General M.M.Wanchoo, R.C.Thakur, and Kanaiya Lal Gidwani as accused in the case, as conspirators to cheat war widows. CBI came in for criticism from Bombay High Court for its tardy work in probe of this housing scandal. A preliminary enquiry had been made in November 2010. There was an alleged forging of documents and abusing of official position in the case, where the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh was so up set that he ordered the demolition of the entire high-rise building recently.
Two retired Army Commanders and a former Navy Admiral were involved in the scandal, owning flats meant for poor families of Kargil Martyrs. The chiefs have since returned their flats. Environment Ministry had found the tall building to be unauthorised and built against coastal regulations. The 31-store building is an object of litigation seeking stay order against its demolition.
