New Delhi : The hopes of promising Indian sprinters who are caught in dope scandal including Ashwini Akkunji from DK, a gold medal winner in Asian Games, came crashing down with the IAAF appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Switzerland to increase their sanction to two years.
Ashwini, Sini Jose, Mandeep Kaur and Manjeet Kaur who had dim hopes of making it to the Olympics as their ban had ended just before the Olympic qualification period expired, are now at a loss. They were earlier banned for one year by NADA after failing in dope test.
The relay team members had won gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games here and the Asian Games a month later. Akkunji who also won the 400m hurdles in Guangzhou, was later caught in dope test.
