Relay Runner Ashwini Chidanand
Bangalore : She is a Railway athlete from Siddapura in Kundapur Taluk in the West Coast, a part of Udupi District. She is employed in South Western Railway as a Counter Clerk. She was honoured by none other than the Railway Minister herself, the ever ebullient Mamatha Banerjee, on Tuesday in New Delhi. Ahswini received a large Cheque of Rs. 15 lakhs for winning a gold medal in the recent Common Wealth Games held near Yamuna river village stadium as a member of 4x100m relay runners.
Just as Vandana Rao brought laurels to DK in an international race many years ago, Ashwini brought name and earned fame for Udupi District this year.
In cricket, it may be noted that Mangalore united team won the KPL finals just before Mysore Dusherah and received the Cup from Prince of Mysore who headed KPL cricket tournament in Bangalore.
