Mangalore : A total of six Asian Power lifting Champions were given a rousing welcome at the Mangalore Central Railway Station on May 10, Thursday.
The champions were three men and three women powerlifters from Mangalore, who had bagged a total of 19 gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Asian Powerlifting Championship at Udaipur in Rajasthan from May 1 to May 7, 2012. The championship event was organized by the Indian Powerlifting Federation. It comprised a number of categories such as bench lift, squat, and others.
In the championship, Harish Kumar of Morgan Gate, Ashwin Kudroli, and Vinod Raj of Vamanjoor from Balanjaneya Gymnasium on Car Street, won a total of 8 medals in the men’s championship, whereas Deepa Kulal and Amitha Poojary of Gokarnanatha College and Neha H. of SDM College, Ujire bagged 11 medals in the women’s championship.
Reportedly, Harish Kumar bagged 4 gold medals, Ashwin bagged 3 gold medals, and Vinod Raj bagged one silver medal. Deepa Kulal bagged 4 gold medals, Amitha Poojary bagged 4 silver medals, and Neha H. bagged 3 bronze medals.
Around 270 power lifters from 17 countries participated in this event, and 60 participants were from India.
Indian Powerlifting Federation Vice President Sathish Kudroli appreciated and congratulated the champions.
