Mangalore: The arrest of social activists in connection with the Phalguni mud dumping row, has triggered protests. Various organizations staged a protest in front of the DC office on May 25, Friday, demanding ‘DC Hatao.’ The protest was also to oppose the arrest of residents of Atrebail Melkoppala recently while they strongly condemned the act of dumping mud on Phalguni.
Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, General Secretary of the National Confederation of Human Rights who spoke said the DC by lodging complaint has tried to silence the protestors. Renny D’Souza of PUCL, Muneer Katipalla, District President of DYFI, office bearers and members of the Kulur, Melukoppa Athrebail Nagarika Samithi, Citizens Forum, Student Federation of India, PUCL, Jamaat E Islami Hind and Communal Harmony Forum and other organizations took part in the protest.
