Mangaluru : A 40-year-old man died and his 35-year-old friend suffered injuries following an assault allegedly by four persons at B.G. Complex, near Karnataka State Road Trasnport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitness accounts, the four members came in an autorickshaw to the complex at around 3 p.m.
They trooped on Roshan, a scrap dealer, as soon as he parked his two-wheeler near the complex.
Roshan has an office on the first floor of the B.G. Complex building.
Eyewitnesses said Roshan managed to drive away in his vehicle and returned to the complex along with his 40-year-old friend Rohit at around 5 p.m. The four persons, who were waiting near the complex, again attacked Roshan and Rohit.
While Roshan managed to escape with injuries on his head, Rohit, an autorickshaw driver, collapsed on the ground floor of the complex after being hit on his head and chest.
The police said the attackers used a heavy stone, stick and a sharp weapon to attack the two. Rohit died on spot.
It took nearly an hour for the police to arrive at the spot. Roshan has been shifted to a near by private hospital.
The Barke police said they suspect the attack to be a result of the dealings of Roshan.
Search was on to find the persons involved in the murder, the police said.
