Mangaluru : The Besant Evening College along with its Alumni Association celebrated Auto Drivers Day on Sunday, 29th March, in the College auditorium.

Around 45 Auto drivers were felicitated and among them three were chosen for honours. Montu Lobo, an 80 years old auto driver, was honoured with the title “Kudla Auto Raja” , K Mohammed was honoured as “Kudla Auto Atmabhandhava” and Sundar Shetty was honoured as “Kudla Auto Mithra”. They were also given cash prizes.

Sri. Nalin Kumar Kateel, M.P., was the chief guest and appreciated the organisers for celebrating auto drivers day and Sri. Udaya Nayak Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, Sri. Sunil Kumar Bajal of CPI(M), Sri. Manel Annappa Nayak Vice President of Besant Institutions were the guests of honour.

Sri. Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy President of the Besant Institutions presided over the function.

Dr. Carmelita Goveas Principal of Besant Evening College spoke about the objectives of organising Auto Drivers Day. Sri Ishwar Poojary Co-ordinator of the programme welcomed the gathering. Professor Dr. Sathish Kumar Shetty, Sri. Mahaveera, Sri. Gopal Raddi Ritti read out the honours and Sri. Vishwanath Achar, Department of Economics proposed the vote of thanks.

A cultural entertainment event was arranged after the programme.
