Mangalore : The DK Working Journalists’ Association and Press Club organized the Meet the press with Prof T C Shivashankar Murthy, Vice chancellor, Mangalore University at Press Club on August 19, Thursday.
Addressing the media person on the occasion, he said that the University will establish a student’s grievances redressal cell within three months of time to report their complaints on the sexual harassment taking place.
Explaining on the cell, he also said that, the will be given adequate powers working within the framework of UGC regulations. Yet to the present day, just one student has filed complaint against sexual harassment by University staff, further the implementation of the cell help the students to come forward.
The staff will be suspended on the complaint only if proven wrong and the students must give the plaintiff’s name and details. A preliminary enquiry will be conducted before taking action against the person. For the time being, a nominal grievance redressal cell has been arranged, the Vice Chancellor said.
Speaking on the problem between the University and autonomous colleges, he said that the Varsity was just following the government’s orders and certificates cannot be given to the students without paying registration fees.
The students have to pay the registration fees depending upon the courses from Rs 300 to Rs 2000 to the University.
All colleges have to follow the examination system of 80 theory and 20 internal marks as prescribed by the UGC for the sake of uniformity he informed.
