Mangaluru : It rained heavily in several places in the district since Tuesday night and it continued to rain on Wednesday. According to data received by Karnataka State Disaster Monitoring Centre at 7.30 p.m., the rainfall was in range of 0.5 mm and 64.5 mm.
The district recorded an average rainfall of 69 mm in the last 24 hours ended at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. This was 75 % more than the normal rainfall of 40 mm.
Belthangady taluk recorded an average highest of 90 mm rainfall. Puttur taluk recorded 67 mm, while Bantwal taluk received 60 mm, followed by Mangaluru with 58 mm and Sullia taluk with 57 mm in the same period.
Among the places where it rained heavily included Neriya (127 mm) and Marodi (113 mm) in Belthangady taluk, Shirady (98 mm) and Noojibaltila (91 mm) in Puttur taluk and Nellikaru (94.5 mm) and Deregudde (92 mm) in Mangaluru taluk.
Heavy rain led to a tree falling on the washroom of a school in Narimogaru in Puttur taluk that resulted in a minor injury to a student. A part of a house owned by Sudhir was damaged in Akash Bhavan here as the boundary wall collapsed. Personnel from the Mangaluru City Corporation carried out the restoration work. Water logging in K.S. Road, Pumpwell and Balmatta affected movement of traffic in the city.
