Mangalore : On the Back drop of Upcoming assembly election an Awareness programme on compulsory Adult franchise was held at St. Agnes College on 17th Wednesday 2013.
Student’s took oath in front of commissioner of police Mr. Manish Karbhikar and other officials to actively participate in Electoral process and exercise their right to vote without fear or favor.
Speaking to students Mr. Karbhikar stressed the importance of voting not only for the individual but also for the nation. He opined that in spite of 50 to 70% of Votes were usually caste in almost all elections held so far in the country, still large majority of population remains out of voting process and it is really worrying aspect for the future of the country.
Further stressing the obstacles of low and order in olden days, he reminded the students of wide spread habit of booth capturing and terrorising women voters and how it has been eliminated by low enforcing agencies.
The Major concern of the election commission of India Now is to Make each citizen exercise their right to vote and ensure greater voter’s participation. Calling the youth to caste their votes as responsible citizens of the country without succumbing to any kind of pressure.
