Mangalore : With the administration’s ban on plastic officially coming into force in the Mangalore taluk on November 1, a month long awareness drive  against the use of plastics was also launched on Rajyotsava Day. An awareness rally was also taken out with the participation of students of various schools and colleges as well as Scouts, Guides, NCC and SSS volunteers.

The rally was taken out from  Mangala Stadium to Nehru Maidan under the aegis of the district administration.

DC Channappa Gowda has said the administration will give 15 days for the public  to get themselves ready for the plastic ban and added a vehicle with two home guards will be deployed to ensure effective implementation of the ban.

He said a meeting of shop owners would be convened and they would be persuaded to opt for alternatives like clothes and paper bags.
