Mangalore : A workshop for heads of various schools with an objective of creating awareness on drug abuse and gender disparity in schools, was held at Rosario High School on February 16, Saturday. The event was organised by the Deputy Directorate of Public Instructions.
Hilda Rayappan, Director of Prajna Counseling Centre, who spoke on the occasion, said parents need to be alert as it is only when elders are alert that one can prevent children from getting addicted to drugs or becoming victims of sexual abuse. At schools, it is teachers who have to take up the role of parents, she added.
IGP Prathap Reddy, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal Dr Shaleeph, Professor, SDM College, Ujire and Dr Shikaripura Krishnamurthy, Rtd Lecturer, St Aloysius College, were the resource persons.
Sadananda Poonja, Education officer, Moses Jayashekhar, Deputy Director of Public Instructions, Shivaramayya, Block Education Officer, Mangalore North and others were present.
