Mangalore : Members of the Baikampady Village Residents Association and the Moideen Jumma Masjid organised a protest in front of the DC office on March 25 Monday urging for an intensive probe into what they termed as the irregularities taking place in the masjid.
They also urged for a probe into the recent case reported from the masjid premises in which the gunman of the masjid president Aboobakker fired in the air after a tiff with a local youth whose bike hit him, but did not cause any injury. The agitators also pointed out that Ranjith, the gunman had registered cases against over 40 members of the Jumma Masjid though they were not involved in any fracas. They pointed out that those in the masjid had only rushed out when the incident took place and tried to reconciliate.
They alleged that the masjid president was not willing to step down and had also not produced accounts regarding the construction of a community hall by the masjid at a cost of over Rs one crore.
A memorandum was also submitted to the DC and the Mangalore Police Commissioner.
Moideen Juma Masjid Ex- President B A Jabbar, Ahmed Sherif and various other personalities behind the functioning of the Masjid Committee and Welfare Association participated in the protest.
