Mangalore : After a month or more, the debris at the Boeing crash site in a gorge amidst forests has been cleared, and the effects left by the 158 dead (such as are not stolen by the living and the thieves) have been sorted out, and now they are being transferred to the genuine families of the departed. There were earlier reports of a gang of 3 thieves (one caught) of taking away gold, cash and ornaments from the debris which was later put on day and night police guard. The materials relating to 46 dead have been identified and handed over to the bereaved families, even those effects which belonged to a survivor in the crash, Ismail Abdulla from Puttur.
Such of the effects that are not handed over to anyone, are being listed up, according to Air India statement. This work is entrusted to Canyon International Co. Once identified, the concerned families would be invited to take charge of the effects. There is an Association of such families at Bajpe, and they are taken into confidence, the press note informed
