Mangalore : Bajpe Muslim Okkoota and the Pro People Union staged protest meet in front of the DC’s office on January 23 Monday against use of lathis by the Bajpe Police against the students of Ansar School in Bajpe on January 16.
Addressing the protestors, the Bajpe SI Dinakar Shetty used lathis against the group of school children protesting against the lack of a speed breaker in front of the school and demanding the immediate construction of one.
He also said that many attempts have been made to disturb communal peace in the district.
Mohammed Sharif president of the Okkoota delivered the welcome and keynote address in which he urged suspension of Dinakar Shetty, the sub inspector of Bajpe Police Station, for using lathis against school children.
Moodubidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain, urged the government to take action against the sub inspector as he is responsible for the lathi charge against children. Later they also submitted a memorandum to the DC.
Congress leaders Vijayakumar Shetty, Bondala Jagannath Shetty, Mithun Rai, Ivan D’Souza, Sucharitha Shetty, Mohiuddin Bava, former mayor Ashraf, and others also participated in the protest.
