Bangalore: Former PM and Hassan MP, H.D. Devegowda’s eldest son and retired KAS officer Balakrishna Gowda faced a discomfiture in Karnataka High Court on Thursday, when the court summarily dismissed his petition to reject a suit filed against him for having disproportionate income to his normal earnings and assets.
The court has allowed an enquiry thereby, into the assets his family now has.
A Lokayukta special court had ordered to register a FIR against Balakrishnae Gowda and proceed with an enquiry. Gowda sought the cancellation of FIR itself. But now that the court has rejected his plea, he has to co-operate in an enquiry on his assets in recent years.
Bhadravathi resident S.L. Balakrishna had complained that HD Balakrishna Gowda who served KAS from 1984 to 2005, had made lots of illegal wealth in Revenue department as special DC. In 2005 he took voluntary retirement from service (VRS). His normal income would be Rs.40 Lakhs, but he had Rs. 70 crores with him. There days, his assets were valued at Rs.500 crores or more, the complainant told Lokayukta, in recent years. Obviously, it is time for an enquiry into such colossal wealth.
