Bangalore: Nearly two months since the brutal attack inside a Bangalore ATM left a lady partially paralyzed, there have been no arrests. What’s more is that banks have sought more time to implement the strict guidelines recommended following the incident.
The Bangalore police reviewed security at ATMs after the 45-day deadline to banks to comply with security guidelines expired. “They were seeking six months or one year time which is unreasonable, because they have not started the process. That’s a cause of concern,” said Raghavendra Auradkar, Bangalore Police Commissioner.

Following the brutal attack in the ATM that shook the city, the police had instructed banks to provide 24/7 guards outside all ATMs. They were also asked to install emergency alarm system for customers.
“Most of the banks are in the process of complying with the requirements. They’ve asked for a certain time limit because of various issues. Definitely, every bank will comply with the directions,” said K Santosh Kamath, Convenor, State Level Bankers Committee.
Even as police officials and banks are in the process of increasing security, there’s little progress on the investigation even after two months since the ATM attack. The police are still on the lookout for the culprit.
When the Bangalore Police issued strict guidelines to banks soon after that infamous ATM attack in November 2013, many called it a knee-jerk reaction. But the police maintain that the security step-up at ATMs is something they had started over a year ago and will strictly follow-up with banks.
