Bangalore: The Karnataka Government is said to have recommended the name of former Kerala High Court Chief Justice R S Bannurmath for the post of the Lokayukta. Sources in the government said that the 63- year-old retired judge’s name has been sent to Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
The post of the Lokayukta was vacant after Justice Shivaraj Patil quit over a row over his residential plots, on September 20.
Following this, the government had a tough time finding the right person for the post as a few qualified judges refused to take the hot seat.
Meanwhile, the Congress has objected to the manner in which the name of Justice Bannurmath has been recommended. Opposition leader in the Legislative Council S Motamma said that they were not consulted on the appointment.
“We got letters from the CM’s office asking us to suggest names for the post. Myself and Siddaramaiah (Opposition leader in the Assembly) had written to the CM asking him to call a meeting comprising Opposition leaders and the High Court Chief Justice,” Motamma said.
