Mangalore : The Bantwal municipality in association with the Bantwal police conducted a drive to remove the unauthorized shops functioning below the flyover on B.C Road on Tuesday.
Most of the shop owners agreed to remove their business outlets b their own, while few shops had forcibly removed by the police and Municipality officials by using JCB.
The action was taken as the com increasing number of commuters faced a lot of problem due to unauthorized shops. These shops used to block the parking space for the vehicles and cause vehicular movement.
The decision about the eviction of shops was discussed at a municipal meeting held last month and members came to a conclusion to remove such shops.
However, the rickshaw drivers opposed the Municipal decision to shift their parking stand from its present location. The Auto rickshaw drivers union said that they will remove the parking stand only if alternative place will be provided to them. After a heated conversation, the officers decided to discuss the issue with the drivers in the next meeting.
Leena Britto of Town Municipality, engineer Dominic D’Mellow, Health officer Rajshekar were present as a part of drive.
