Bantwal: Several residents of Bantwal led by MLA UT Khader laid siege to the garbage dumping yard of the town which is under construction at Sajipanadu-Kanchinadka Padavu and locked up the main gates of the yard.

Their grouse was that the Bantwal TMC was dumping garbage in an unscientific manner without adhering the rules laid down by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

The protest was planned after the locals had earlier submitted a memorandum to the MLA citing the problems faced by them.

Along with Khader, the protest was also led by Mamatha Gatti, former ZP chief.

The locks were later removed by the police at the orders of the Deputy Commissioner who was informed of the matter by Bantwal TMC authorities.

Meanwhile, Bantwal TMC President Dinesh Bhandari has assured that the garbage yard would be constructed in a scientific manner. He also sought police protection for the yard.
