Bantwal :  Twenty two year old Sowmya who was allegedly raped and murdered  by a local person on February 25, Monday  near a pond at Kuntalgudde in Kalladka of Bantwal, was laid to rest on February 26, Tuesday.

Several family members and hundreds of people attended the funeral, Senior congress leader B Janardhan Poojari, DCC President Ramanatha Rai, Mahila Congress Chief Mamatha Gatti and others were present.

On this occasion, Poojari who spoke to the media strongly condemned the incident and handed over a cash of Rs 10,000 to the family of Sowmya. He assured to strive to get compensation to the family.

Sowmya who was on way home after alighting from the  bus at a local bus stand was murdered after she resisted the advances of one Satish, a local youth.

Investigations are in progress.
