Moodbidri : Santosh Das alias Ghanashyam, the prime accused in the Siddantha Darshana Mandir theft case of Moodbidri, who was arrested at Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, was brought to Mangalore on July 28, Sunday evening.
The accused was taken to Moodbidri on July 29, Monday morning where he was subject to interrogation. He was even taken to the Basadi where the theft took place, He was produced before the Moodbidri Civil Court in the morning.
The burglary was reported from th Siddantha Darshana Mandir on July 6 night and as many as 15 antique idols worth several crores had been reported stolen. The connections to all the CCTV cameras had been cut off by the burglar. However the CC Camera had recored some movements of the thief.
A black bag left behind by the accused and the finding of an Oriya newspaper in it gave the much needed clue to the police.Some of the telephone numbers found also helped in the investigation.
Investigations are yet to throw light if there was some international racket behind the stealing of the antique idols from the Basadi.
