Bangalore: The state government has now announced the 2010 awards of Basava to MS Medha Patkar of Narmada (River) Bachao Andolan over her gritty struggles to save local tribals. She has also participated in other pro-people movements, such as Hazare’s, all over India.
Revealing the decisions, Minister Govind Karajola, informed that Ms. Patkar would receive Rs. 10 Lakhs, a citation, and other gifts. The selection committee was headed by Dr. M.M. Kalburgi, a historian.
The 2009 (Amara shilpi) Jakanachari award goes to K.C. Puttannachar (Mysore), and 2010 award to Venkatachalapathi (Bangalore).
The 2009 Shishunala Sheriff sant award for 2009 is given to T.V. Raju (Tumkur), and 2010 award to well-known light singer B.K. Sumitra (Who presided over Mangalore Light Music Conference in 2009.
These awards carry Rs. 3 lakhs each, a citation and mementoes, Karajola told Press.
Veerabhadrachar and Shimoga Subbanna headed the selection committees on sculpture and light music.
Saraswathi Samman award winner S.L. Bhyrappa a novelist will be honoured on Dec 04 at Ravindra Kalakshetra, with Rs. 5 lakhs as a present to him. No other decisions were made on dates so far, Karajola stated.
