Mangalore: S. B. Mohammed Darimi inaugurated a workshop on duff organized by the Beary Sahithya Academy at Town Hall on Dec 26, Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the academy must revive the elapsed Beary art such as taleem and duff, He also said that the Beary community has lost its cultural heritage and identity due to the influence of Western culture.
Darimi urged the scholars to develop a new script for Beary language, Since Malayalam too did not have its own script in the beginning but was later modified from Tamil script and became an independent script.
M. B. Abdurrahman, the academy president, presided over the programme. Usman Haji Mithur was the chief guest of the occasion; P. Mohammed, the member of the academy, delivered the welcome address; and R. K. Madani compered the programme.
Later during the special book release function, Prof. Lingadevaru Halemane, the director of Rangayana Mysore, released ten Beary books like “Nenel” written by Ibrahim Tannirbhavi, “Taravad” by U. A. Khasim Ullal, “Nallo Theru” by K. P. Abdul Khader Kukkethoor, “Moilanji” by Hussain Katipalla, “Nombala” by Fakrudeen Iruvail, “Kaladire Swarge” by Zubeida Gurupura, “Nandoraya Nando Samskrithi” by T. A. Aliyabba Jokatte, “Pirsappad” by Ashraf Apollo Kalladka, “Duff Songs and CDs” by Ibrahim Tannirbhavi and Hussain Katipalla, and “Poomale” by around 30 writers.
M B Abdul Rahman, president of the Academy presided over the programme. Prof Dr M S Ashadevi of Maharani College of Science, Bangalore, and Abusalem Putthige, chief editor, Vartha Bharathi participated as the chief guests. Registrar of the academy Chandrahas Rai B welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks.
