Mangalore: The South Kanara Beedi Workers’ Federation(CITU) staged a protest meet in front of Labour Commissioner’s office near Benddorwell, Mangalore here on June 4, Wednesday, for demanding to pay Beedi workers increased daily wages from last 2months.
Addressing the protest rally BM Bhat, CITU District President said, as per revised daily wages of Rs 21.15 per 1000 beedies has not paid since last two months. The beedi worker was permitted to get Rs: 150.88 for every 1000 beedis produced to contractor. But contractor have not so far provided the increased daily wages to the Beedi roller.
Protester demanded that, from April 2014 to 10 June 2014 this year contractor should pay their minimum wages along with arrears. If not get so, Beedi Workers’ Federation would arrange protests in front of the beedi owners premises again. Bhat added.
Labour union leader Vasantha Achari and others were present.
