Mangalore: A protest was staged in front of the Ganesh Beedi Godown at Lalbagh in Mangalore on November 6, Tuesday, by the beedi workers associated with South Kanara Beedi Workers’ Federation opposing the cut down on workload since the past two months.

P Sanjeeva, President of the Federation, said the beedi workers have been hit hard due to cut in work and added the cut in work was due to the fact that the company was buying beedi from other sources at cheaper rates.

As part of the protest, a memorandum enlisting the demands were submitted to Nagesh Shetty, Manager of South Kanara Home Industry (godown). He assured to consider the demands and at the same time said the work has been cut down by only 15 per cent.

M Shivappa Kotian, Treasurer of the Federation, Sulochana, Vasanthi R Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
