Mangalore : Curtains were drawn to the grand centenary celebrations of the St Francis Xavier’s Church, Bejai with a grand ceremony at the church premises on October 14, Sunday.

There was centenary thanksgiving Eucharistic Mass, with bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza as the main celebrant. The Adoration Chapel was inaugurated by the Bishop.

Fr Victor Machado, Parish Priest of Bejai Church, who presided over the function thanked all those who extended their support t for the success of the mega celebrations.

He said Adoration Chapel and a new grotto of Mother Mary have been built to commemorate the centenary.

Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Fr Anil Roshan Lobo, Fr Richard D’Souza, and Charlotte Patrao, secretary of parish council shared the dais.

A power presentation detailing the achievements and programmes of Bejai Church over the past 100 years was shown on the occasion. A musical play on the life of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of the Church was presented.

Earlier on Saturday, a colourful procession featuring several tableaux was held from Circuit House to the church premises as part of the celebrations.
