Mangalore: The construction of the Bejai market which was progressing at a snail’s pace, is expected to be expedited and the construction complete within the next six months.
It may be mentioned here that vendors particularly fish selling women had to move out of the old Bejai market ever since the new project was initiated four years ago. But the project was limping much to the dismay of the fish sellers. However, MCC authorities have now informed that tenders have been floated and work underway. Ivan D’Souza, KPCC Secretary and Honorary Advisor of Bejai Market Horata Samithi said the pressure tactics of the Samithi has yielded result.
The new market would have three floors and would come up at a cost of Rs 1.69 crores. Ivan D’Souza has said once the first floor works are completed, the fish sellers would be shifted and this, he said may take at least three months.
