Mangaluru : As per direction of Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Deputy Director of Public Instructions Walter D’Mello has directed all Block Education Officers to publish 13-point information including number of seats, fees structure, reservation, admission dates, using flex at all aided and unaided school premises, before May 8.
In the Education Authority meeting at the DC office here on Monday, the education activists including Shikshana Rakshana Vedike President Lolaksha came down heavily against the department officials and alleged that they are flouting the government rules. The flexes have not been installed in any school premises. Though many schools reject seats, parents are not able to know their rights.
Schools are not following the reservation and fees structure as well. They have not uploaded the information even in the department website till date, he said. The officials said they couldn’t do because of dearth of staff. Owing to SSLC examination, school visit was not carried out. There is shortage of manpower. DYFI District President Muneer Kaatipalla said that the reply shows the irresponsibility of the officials.
People are struggling to pay donation for unaided schools in rural areas. Many have already paid the donations. Do they get their money back, he asked. SFI leader Nithin Kuthar said donation menace has increased inthe district. As schools are run by religious institutions, people fail to raise their voice against donation menace.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi English Medium Schools Association President Mohammed Beary said that they can fix Rs 30,000 of fees per student as per the order of the Apex Court. “But, we are not ready to take much from rural kids as the schools of coastal districts are not industries.Schools are not aimed at making money. But it is tough to run an institute with present Rs 15,000. According to the rules, we should pay around Rs 5,000 to teachers, which is unscientific,” he said.
The DDPI interfered and said that the order has received over 7,000 objections and it is has not finalised. The DDPI also suggested the public to complain with Fees Controlling Authority President and DC A B Ibrahim in case of misappropriation in fees collection. The DC hailed the contribution of private education institution to the district and wanted their cooperation in implementation of government order.
