Mangalore : Few jokatte youths who were on way to Shringeri from Mangalore to bring the body of a cattle transporter Kabeer and his cousin Sarfaraz, were assaulted by Bhajrangdal activists on April 19, Saturday.
According to the initial reports, it is learnt that Kabir (22) from Kukkady in Krishnapura was killed as ANF officials opened fire, but later it is revealed that Kabir’s cousin Sarfaraz(24) from Jokatte was also killed in the firing, who was accompanied with Rafiq, the driver and Pramod, the cleaner
Reportedly, the Bhajrangdal activists assaulted few jokatte youths with stones, machetes and wooden clubs in front of police making the situation tense.
One of the injured Salam(25) of Jokatte, who is admitted to a private hospital in the city said that a group of 25 to 30 people attacked him along with Mohammad Ismail alias Monu, the brother of the deceased Kabir. He also said that he was given first aid at the Shringeri hospital.
Apart from it, the locals of Krishnapura opposed the incident by ANF and observed a voluntary bundh in the area for mistaking cattle trader Kabir to be a Naxalite.
