Mangalore: The 35th death anniversary of Na. Su Hardikar, founder of Bharat Seva Dal and an honouring ceremony were conducted at the teachers’ Training College in Mangalore today by District unit of BSD and Tagore Park Public Education Deptt in Mangalore.
Basher Baikampady who presided over the function lighted the traditional lamp, to inaugurate the event.
Ms. Octavia Albuquerque, a former MLC was honoured on the occasion for her life time achievements.
The guest informed the audience that Seva Dal Volunteers, especially students, worked more than all other public service bodies, to spread the ideals of Gandhiji such as Peace Truth and Non-Violence.
She referred to her boyhood days when there was no quarrel over religion and community, but these days, riots take place over those topics she lamented.
Ms. Octavia expressed her delight over receiving an honour on 38th death anniversary of N.S. Hardikar in his name and asked students to emulate him in his qualities of leadership.
Basheer Baikampady, told the audience that in DK alone, there were 600 units of B.S. Dal, which had been promoted to establish impeccable character traits among young students / youths, and it has thousands of units all over the state.
