Bhatkal: Police sub-inspector Revathi, who was suspended by Uttara Kannada SP Vamshi Krishna on Saturday night, submitted her resignation to circle police inspector Suresh Naik, alleging harassment from senior officials.
Revathi was suspended on charges of dereliction of duty and insubordination. Speaking to Express from Bhatkal, Krishna said, “A businessman, Mohsin, from Bhatkal, had complained to the Bhatkal town police station about harassment from certain individuals for hafta, and also a life threat against him, but Revathi had not registered the complaint, despite the seriousness of the issue. Consequently, Mohsin approached the Uttara Kannada SP to register the complaint.”
“Revathi was instructed to register the complaint immediately, but she instead called Mohsin and asked him to reconcile with his detractors. Following this, Mohsin complained to the Bhatkal DySP, who reported the matter to me. In the meanwhile, Revathi reportedly intimidated the complainant, which left me with no option but to suspend her,” he added.
Based on the complaint, two people Saleem and Amjad Kumta have been arrested. A search is on for four others.
The suspension order will be ratified by Inspector General of Police (Western range) Arun Chakravarty. Revathi was unavailable for comment.
