Udupi: Police have arrested a bike thief and succeeded in recovering seven bikes along with some jewellery, on Tuesday near Surathkal Flyover.
Pradeep Rama Moily (29) is the arrested thief. He was mastered in the art of bike theft. He was visiting the jewellery shops to buy gold and from there he was stealing the bikes which were parked near the shop.
During the interrogation he has confessed that he opted this way to lead a luxurious life. During his arrested he was riding a Hero Honda motor bike which was stolen on August 19.
Police have said that they recovered the stolen seven bikes and two gold chains of eight and ten grams from Lulu jewellers and Kripa Jewellers. The value of seized items has been estimated as Rs 2.83 lakh.
Moily was using the stolen bikes to visit the places which he wanted to visit and used to leave the bike there itself. In case he needed another bike for his touring purpose then he used to steal the bikes again. Three of the recovered bikes were abandoned in different places. He was arrested when he was riding his seventh stolen bike.
From 2011 to 2013 he was working in a private company at Manipal. He had also misused the identity card which was issued during his working time.
The possession was directed by Udupi SP K T Balakrishna, Karkala ASP Dr Sumana and was executed by PCI Halamurthy Rao and Padubidri PSI Basappa and other personnel.
