Puttur : Diwaker, pillion rider of a bike was killed on the spot, while his brother Dinesh who was riding the bike sustained serious injuries when their bike collided head on with a tipper while negotiating a curve at Mayilga near Alankaru on the Uppinangady-Kadaba State Highway on May 20, Monday.

The impact of the collision was such that Diwaker was thrown on the road and died on the spot. Dinesh has been admitted to a private hospital at Uppinangady and is battling for life.

The accident disrupted traffic on the road for some time. The deceased Diwaker worked as a machine operator in a quarry at Kasargod and is survived by his wife and a two year old son.

So far 15 lives have been lost  in  road accidents on the highway with most cases taking place due to reckless driving  on the road which has been re-laid.
