Mangalore : Former mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Purandaradasa Kuloor, has been arrested in Jagalur, Devanagere for allegedly for his involvement in illegal gold excavation on Oct 14 Friday.
The police have also arrested Abdul Rahman, Mohammed, Jabir, Ponnappa, Siddique, Padmanabha Bhat, Rajesh Shetty, Mahantesh, Basavaraj, and Rangappa.
The team comprising of Kuloor reached Chowdamma Temple in Tarehalli in Ranga Durga Reserve Forest area to find a gold mine in the area. Out of 15 members team, four are absconding.
After receiving a tip off information from the villagers, Bilichodu police reached the spot at 3:00 a.m and found them digging and arrested all.
The police have also seized two cars worth Rs. 5 lakh each and 2 motorbikes. The gang has been charged with damaging government property, digging holes illegally, and destroying crops.
The accused have been produced in court.
