Mangalore: the all India Billavas Union, Kudroli launches its centenary year celebrations on February.12 at 10 AM in local Town Hall premises. CM DV Sadananda Gowda is expected to inaugurate the day-long programme.
Ministers Krishna Palemar and Dr. V.S. Acharya, local MP Nalin K. Kateel, city MLA N. Yogish Bhat, MP (Rs) Oscar Fernandes, eminent personality from Billava Community and former politicians will be present.
The all India union president Naveen Chandra Suvarna, who made a public statement on Monday about who built Kudroli Temple, will preside on the occasion.
Briefing pressmen on the coming event, Suvarna revealed that a hostel building would be constructed, at about Rs. 2 crores in estimated cost, on a plot of one acre in Kunjathbail, provided by the state.
The hostel will have both boys and girl students of Billava society, he said.
Senior Billavas gathered in 1912 formed a Union to protect social interests. Narayana Guru Guided this formation in Kudroli then to bring about social reforms. A number of projects were up in right earnest over a period by selfless social service volunteers. Such achievements are all over the DK district he said. Office bearers of the Union were present during presesmeet.
