Udupi: Outstanding achievers from the Billawa community were honoured at ‘Namma Biruver’ a programme organized by the Narayana Guru Billawa Seva Sangha at Brahmavar. The programme was inaugurated by Mamatha Poojari, the captain of the Indian Kabaddi team which won the World Cup.
On behalf of the Billawa organization, Mamatha Poojari honoured Sanjay Dayananda Kadoor, a Guinness Record holder for etching Ganapati image on a pencil point and Vanaraj Poojary, a guard at Beedinagudde crematorium in Udupi.
Sri Vikhyatananda Swamiji of Gurukritha Sevashram, Bolyottu, who blessed the occasion, said the talent in each individual must be identified and encouraged for them to achieve greater results.
Sri Satyananda Theertha Swamiji of Shivagiri Mutt in Kerala also spoke on the occasion. B N Shankar Poojary, President of the Billawa Seva Sangha, presided over the function.
Among the dignitaries present on the dais were former minister Vasanth V Salian, cine star Sooryodaya, Ganesh Malpe, President of Brahma Baidarkala Garodi, Kalmadi and Sanjeeva Master, President of Billawa Seva Sangha, Kokkarne.
Prior to the function, a colourful procession was taken out in the town.
