Mangalore : Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, in his Christmas greetings to the society, said that this year calls for some concern towards the poor.
He was speaking to media representatives at the press meet held at the Bishop House in Mangalore on December 21, Friday. Bishop said Christmas is birth of Christ. He is to be reborn in our hearts, families, societies and environment. Let peace and co-ordination be ushered among all the people.
He said the Mangalore Diocese as a first step, will provide Rs 10 lakhs to 50 economically poor students for their higher education and Rs 5 lakhs will be provided to 1000 poor people for their clothing as a Christmas gift.
Further he said that construction of 165 homes in commemoration of 125 years of Diocese are nearing to completion and will be over as early as possible. So far 126 houses have been completed, he added.
Her also said that 28 houses at the cost of Rs 3,60,000 each will be constructed and given to very poor families at Talapady.
Henry Sequeira, Chancellor of Mangalore Diocese, PRO William Menezes, Raymond D’Cunha and Marcel Monteiro were also present.
