Mangalore : Varkady Sri Durgadevi Temple, Thoudugoli celebrated Souramana Ugadi, popularly known as ‘Bisu’ heralds the beginning of a new year for Tuluvas on April 13, Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dayanand Katthalsar, former member of District Tulu Sahitya Academy said that even to the present day, people believe that truth is what we see and lie is what we do not see, but the people of tulunadu are different from them who still lead their life with belief in God and Daivaradhane.
He also said that the natural disaster like Tsunami and earth quake has been witnessed by the people living all over the world, but the people speaking Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marati, Tulu residing at coastal region from Rameshwar to Neeleshwar border and Neeleshwar to Ankola border has never witnessed such a disastrous situation.
We are living in a region, where mother, nature and teachers are worshipped like god, he added.
Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor inaugurated the event by lighting of the lamp.
Varkady Marikaup Madikatthaya Temple managing trustee Lakshmi Narayana Holla presided over the event.
Sharanya P Bangera performed Bharatanatya, while Master Saharsh entertained the audience with English song. Kairangala Sri Gopalkrishna Yakshagana Sangha presented an episode on Sri Devi Mahisha Mardhini.
Temple president Shivaprasad Thoudugoli welcomed the guests and gathering. Journalist Sathish Kumar Pundika compered the programme and Anand B Nirolike proposed vote of thanks.
