Mangalore: The District unit of the BJP has extended its full support to the Bharath Bundh call given on May 31 demanding the roll back on petrol price hike. The BJP at the same time has said that as many auspicious functions are scheduled for that day, the vehicles relating to such functions would be given exemption for the bundh.
Speaking to reporters in Mangalore on May 28, Tuesday, District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari also requested vehicles proceeding to attend functions to paste stickers so that they could be easily identified. He called upon the public to voluntarily observe a bundh in protest against the hike.
He further said that the Congress led UPA government has increased the prices of petrol seven times during its three year tenure and added by increasing the price of petrol by 100 per cent over the years, it has put the life of common man to hardship.
He also blamed the defective economic policies of the Union Government for the hike in petrol prices which he said was unjustifiable.
He said in Karnataka, the chief minister has been requested to reduce the duty on petrol and that the CM has assured to look into the demand.
Sanjeev Matandoor, District BJP General Secretary, Sudhir Shetty and other office bearers were present.
Varsity postpones exams: In view of the bundh call given on May 31 by various parties, the Mangalore University has decided to postpone the exams scheduled to be held that day. MA/M.Com exams (including correspondence course (scheduled to be held that day will be held on June 1 and the correspondence BA exams have been postponed to June 6. The exams will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on the respective days, a university press release said.
