Mangalore : Senior Congress leader and former Union minister B Janardhana Poojary criticized BJP leaders for opposing Karnataka Panchayatiraj Act amendment with no knowledge.

Addressing the press meet held at Press Club on Thursday, July 11 Poojary said as per the Indian Constitution, gram panchayats are self-governments and act will give more power to people in the local governments.

Poojary stated that during the Gram Sabha, people are given opportunity to speak about development of their village and there is no mistake in holding gram panchayat presidents and members responsible for not holding gram sabha meetings, he said.

He said that with the effort of the MLAs, MLCs, political leaders ofall parties, the ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme has been successfully implemented. Further they must verify whether any family is left out from the scheme.

Congress leaders Arun Coehlo, Kallige Tharnath Shetty, Suresh Ballal  and Harikrishna Bantwal were present.
