Madikeri : Stating that Tipu Sultan cannot be termed as a freedom fighter, BJP MLA  Appachu Ranjan urged that the gloriciation of the ruler of erstwhile Mysore kingdom in history lessons should be done away with.

In a letter submitted to Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, Ranjan contended that Tipu was concerned about expanding his territory and the promotion of his religion.

He urged the minister to drop the lessons on Tipu Sultan from the school curriculum after consultations with subject experts and to include lessons on patriotism.
