Mangaluru: Mangaluru South Assembly Constituency BJP Unit staged protest demanding lifting of ban on sand mining on Tuesday in front of DC office.
Addressing the gathering Unit President Vedavyasa Kamath questioned that how the number of sand mining companies increased to 427, when it was only 93 just three years before.
“Due to the illegal sand mining, traditional sand mining companies are running in loss. We are buying sand by paying the rate of gold,” he said.
Businessman Jeetendra Kottary alleged that district in-charge minister is running illegal sand mining business in Bantwal.
BJP leader Yogish Bhat urged to stop the illegal sand mining in the district.
BJP leaders Monappa Bhandary, Brijesh Chota, Harish Punja, Roopa D Bangera and others were present.
