Mangalore : It has been reliably learnt that the former BJP corporator of Kunjathbail ward who was arrested following Thursday night’s clashes with Congress workers during the victory rally of Congress corporator Mohammad, has been released on March 15, Thursday.
However, Sharath who was injured in the clash is still in the hospital. Earlier, in the day, hundreds of BJP workers and activists of Hindu organizations staged a protest in front of the Kavoor police station demanding the release of the former corporator and also the suspension of the Kavoor SI Umesh and a constable for allegedly assaulting Sharath and another person. They also set a 48 hour deadline and threatened to intensify their protest.
The protest was later withdrawn after the protestors were persuaded and convinced that their demands would be met with.
Latest information reveal that even the bikes which had been seized following Thursday’s clash have been released.
Earlier during the protest RSS leader Prakash said they had spoken to the DCP and they have promised action against two Congress workers Asif and Riyaz who, he said were involved in the clashes.
Several leaders including Umanath Kotian, Franklin Monteiro, Sharan Pumpwell, Pradeep Pumpwell, Suchethan,Jagadish Shenava and others participated in the protest.
Shops in Kavoor and Kunjatbail area also remained closed on Friday.
