Mangalore: Yogish Bhat, MLA and Deputy Speaker has come down heavily on the Union government for increasing the price of diesel and for the cap on the number of LPG cylinders supplied during a year. He also made a strong case for the government to revoke its decision on allowing FDI in multi-brand retail sector.
Bhat was addressing a protest organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Committee of the BJP in front of the DC office in Mangalore on September 17, Monday condemning the fuel price hike and decision to allow FDI in multi brand retail sector.
Several BJP leaders including District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Amitha Kala, Deputy Mayor, Sulochana GK Bhat and others took part in the protest.
The agitators also forwarded a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner seeking to direct the Union government to roll back its recent decisions which it said would hit hard the common man.
The memorandum has also alleged that the Congress government has effected a hike in fuel prices several times over the years and added the recent hike in diesel prices would have its bearing on the prices of various other essential products. The ceiling on LPG cylinders too was a severe blow on the common man, the memorandum stated.
It further said that allowing FDI in retail sector would be a big blow on local traders as well as domestically manufactured products.
