Mangalore : MLC Monappa Bhandary said that BJP will hold state wide agitation in Dakshina Kannada district against the recent amendment to Panchayati Raj Act from July 8 to 11.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press meet held at District BJP office on July 6, Saturday, he said that he will lead the protest meet at Thokkottu near here on July 8.
Apart from it, the protest also be held at Belthangady on July 9, at Puttur and Sullia on July 10, Moodbidri and Bantwal on July 11.
Party district president K Padmanabha Kottari, former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, MLCs Ganesh Karnik, Kota Srinivasa Poojari, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA S Angara will lead protests, said party spokesperson Monappa Bhandary.
He also said that BJP opposes the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2013 which makes gram panchayat presidents and members responsible for not holding the gram sabha and ward committee meetings compulsory for 6 months and disqualifying from the post.
Raj Gopal Rai, Raghavendra Rao and Gurucharan were present at the press meet.
