Bangalore: The ruling BJP won two Rajya Sabha seats and the Congress one from Karnataka in the biennial elections held to four seats Thursday.
BJP nominees Basavaraj Patil Sedam, R Ramakrishna and K Rehaman Khan of Congress were declared elected by Returning Officer Om Prakash when the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers ended today.
Industrialist Rajiv Chandrashekar, who had filed nomination as an independent candidate, was also elected unopposed.
“The four had filed papers for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Karnataka and their nominations were found in order. Today was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
Since only four remained in the fray, they have been declared elected unopposed”, Om Prakash told reporters here.
The nomination of BJP rebel B J Puttaswamy was rejected yesterday with the candidate attracting “office of profit” clause as his resignation from the post of Chief Minister’s Political Secretary had not been accepted on the day of filing of nominations on March 19
