Mangaluru : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take up the second stage of its Maha Samparka Abhiyan (membership drive) in Dakshina Kannada from June 23 to July 6, said Pratapsimha Nayak, president, district unit of the party.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday he said that in the first stage of the drive the party had asked people to give a missed call to a given number under which the party here has received 2.27 lakh phone calls.
In the second stage, workers of the party would visit the houses of those who gave the missed calls, verify their credentials and if satisfied, make them primary members by issuing them membership slips.
During the visit they would also ask other members of the family of those gave missed calls if they are interested and they would also be made primary members.
He said that the workers would ask the family members about their opinion on the one-year rule of the Union government led by the National Democratic Alliance.
Their suggestions on strengthening the BJP would be sought. In the third stage of the drive, a workshop would be conducted to all primary members.
Mr. Nayak said that the district executive of the party met on June 6 congratulated the Union government for increasing the minimum import price of arecanut from Rs. 100 a kg to Rs. 162 a kg.
It condemned the action of the State government of withdrawing cases against those who involved in riots in Mysuru in 2009, and in Shivamogga and Hassan in 2010.
