Bangalore: A 14.5 meter long environment friendly BMTC bus with a seating capacity of 110 would soon be on Bangalore roads on an experimental basis.
This was informed by Transport Minister R Ashok while laying the foundation for a new bus stand at Bagalagunte (Mallasandra) on May 10, Thursday. Ashok said the bus can travel without any problem on even narrow roads and added more such buses would be pressed into service depending upon the response of the public to the bus as well as its efficiency.
Stating that the government would give priority to purchase of environment friendly buses in the days to come, he added the CM would be requested to grant subsidy for use of ethanol in buses. He said the satellite bus terminus coming up at Dasarahalli at a cost of Rs 32 crores would be complete in another three months.
Bangalore Mayor D Venkateshmurthi, State Planning Commission Vice President Ramachandra Gowda, BMTC Managing Director KR Srinivas and others were present on the occasion.
